“Materialized language” is an important form of Artaud’s Theatre of Cruelty and also thebreakthrough of the theory. And also it is the characteristic of the theory created by the Frenchanti-drama theory’s founder Artaud. But so far China has only translated one drama theorywork Theatre of Cruetry——Le Théatre et son Double(public in1938,translated in1993).Studies on Artaud are very few in Chinese academia,and mainly focused on his Theatre ofCruelty. But “materialized language” as the important content of drama theory is onlymentioned in few paper. This paper studies on the “materialized language” in Artuad’s dramatheory, and strives to make a deep study.This paper contains three chapters, and its central thesis are the definition, thecharacterize, the cause of formation, the influence and the value of “materialized language”.The first chapter mainly introduced the definition and characterize of “materializedlanguage” and made the definition on Artaud’s “materialized language” on the basic ofreading Theatre of Cruetry——Le Théatre et son Double. This chapter also explained eachelement of “materialized language”, such as the music, the dance, the scenery. At the sametime, this chapter summarized the characteristic of “materialized language” in detail: poetic inspace, effect on metaphysics, uncertainty and so on, and distinguished the difference betweenthe “materialized language” and other dramatic devices.The second chapter explored the cause and influence of Artaud’s “materialized language”.This paper made an analysis on the “materialized language” both on the inside and outsidefactors, and also analysed the influence on East and West drama of “materialized language”from both the influence of “encircling surrounded” of “Theatre of Cruelty” in the west and the“encircling surrounded” of “materialized language” back to the east.The third chapter discussed the necessity and value of the use of “materialized language”.First this paper stated the development of west drama and Chinese drama in detail. West andEast drama both had bottleneck time in their development. Overall the main performance ofthe bottleneck is the disjointed of the script and the theatre, the two parts didn’t develop inharmony and unity. Artaud’s “materialized language” provided the method of making up thedefect of this situation, and made the cript and theatre in unity. At last, this paper summarizedthe value of “materialized language” in three section: the propose of “materialized language”recoveries the time of west drama basing on the theatre, breaks up the stage that history ofliterature and drama combined together, and keeps the drama exotic, win the audience for the dramaAt last, this paper summarized the great inspiration in Chinese drama from Artaud’s“materialized language” theory, and made reflection of its problem.
