Culture and language are closely related and interactive. When teaching Chinese, we have to notify the importance of the teaching of cultural words, since it not only offers a vital way to spread Chinese culture, but also constitutes an inseparable part of language teaching. Currently, with the constant development of Chinese teaching in the world, great attention has been gradually attached to the significance of teaching Chinese culture. In 2010, Hanban laid out new teaching syllabus about Chinese culture, however, the richness of the culture still makes it particularly difficult to plan the teaching contents, arrange the proper time and employ the effective tactics. The thesis aims to find out the more reasonable approaches to the teaching of Chinese culture on the basis of the study on the cultural words in primary and intermediate intensive Chinese textbooks.In this thesis, we have managed to sort out the new words with particular information about Chinese culture in the two complete sets of Chinese textbooks, and make the comparison thereafter. Meanwhile, we have studied on the relative theories in the such fields as the intercultural communication, contrastive studies of English and Chinese, the second language acquisition, cognitive psychology and the pedagogy. And based on the above studies, we have made comprehensive analysis on the timely problems in the English interpretation of the cultural words. As for the last part of the paper, we analyze the popular teaching approaches and propose the feasible and efficient teaching strategies on Chinese culture, with great hope to offer the inspiration for the Chinese textbook writing and provide suggestive reference for the teaching practice of Chinese culture.
