The class of scholars is a very important part ofsociety in ancient China, this people played an important role in political, cultural and many other aspects.The starting point of this article is that as a part of scholars,how did the adherents of the Ming dynasty to solve the social problems which caused by political and ideological changes,and how did they find the orientation of their life when they faced a social reform.This article take FangYizhi for instance.Fangyizhi(1611-1671),whose nickname is Mizhi or Manggong. He was born in a small town which called FengYili in Anhui Province.Fang is a famous scholars and thinker during Ming and Qing dynasty.His scholarly attainments contains philosophy, buddhist, literature, studies of exegesis, physics and other aspects.At the same time, Fang is also knowed as a representative of adherents of the Ming dynasty,his unique experience of life is especially striking. After the demise of Ming dynasty,Fang had hoped earn his life by his cultural attainment,but finally he had to become a monk because of the pressures from outside.Fang made a great success in Buddhism and found his life orientation.This article focuses on the changes of Fang’s identity,investigate the facts from three aspects:First,investigate early experience and social activities,analyzes Fang’s original orientation of life;Second,comb experience and social activities after Fang hided behind Zen;Third,explain Fang’s life orientation in his old age and analyse why he can found his new life orientation.In order to accumulate the knowledge of scholars and the social phenomenon during Ming and Qing dynasty,this article make FangYizhi as the breakthrough point,comb Fang’s eventful life experiences. Thus, this articlehas a certain extent academically significance.On the other side, the reach of Fang’s and another scholars’ life orientation can also provide an example for people in the modern society, so the article also has some current and historical significance.
