| The annual announcement of the Nobel Prize has lasted for more than100years.During the long course of history, the Nobel Prize for Literature is like a bright pearl ofhumanism, and a great number of the greatest and the most outstanding writers havewon the honor for their deep thoughts about human beings as well as excellent writingtechniques, which makes them leave their footprints in the literature history. The first two parts of this thesis emphasizes on the new features of the winners ofthe Nobel Prize for Literature in the new century. Writers in different periods of historyfocus on different points of the society and the winners in the first decade of the21stcentury are the focus of studies on literature theory. Their life experiences featuredby twists and turns and diverse cultural backgrounds play an important role in theirdistinctive writing style. In this study, the author highlights the winners’ sternreflections about the marginal men and the absurd phenomenon in the society, which isone of the new features of the winners. With neither strong criticism nor rebelliousrevolution, the writers pay more attention to the fate of people who live on the edge ofthe society, such as minorities, formal colonial residents and the poor. Besides, although many representative works of the winners are characterized withautobiographical nature, they tend to show their indifferent writing perspectives.Facing their own worlds and the readers’, and the fate of people of different socialgroups in a more dispassionate way, they take care of people with humanism, anddeclare their idealism, which is another new feature of their works. This newperspective brings writers and readers closer, helps people think about their own fateand the world’s fate, and enables people to gain the power of literature. These two new features offer tremendous enlightenment to modern Chineseliterature, which constitutes the third part of this thesis. Now the realism is still themain trend of Chinese literature. Despite the existing new literary trends like newrealistic literature, youth literature, fantastic literature, etc, Chinese literature, comparedwith the world literature, is still short in diversity. We have not paid enough attention to nor strived for innovation in the literature of special groups, such as minorityliterature, children’s literature, feminine literature. Due to the specific politicalideology, the task of literature—taking care of humanism and the grand human ideal—has not yet been finished. By proposing solutions to these two questions, this thesisaims to enlighten Chinese contemporary literature through the winners of the NobelPrize in literature in the new century. |
