The Reformation in German is not only a reform of religion but also a multi-level and complex reformation of social. Both religions ideas and social political situation play a full part in the Reformation. In this thesis, we try to make a preliminary study about Martin Luther and the early period of the Reformation in German, to clarify the relation between Luther’s religious ideas and social political situation and their relevance to the Reformation. Then we will investigate the pluralism characteristics of the Reformation.This thesis generally consists of four parts. The first part is about the Justification doctrine in the late medieval and the formation of Luther’s new idea that Justification by faith. We will discover the inside train of thought about the Reformation in there. The second part is about the conditon of church and social in German in the Reformation’s eve, there we will analyse the social background to the Reformation. The third part is about the course that Luther break away from the Roman Catholic Church. We will inspect the development of Luther’s thought via Luther’s works from 1517 to 1521. The forth is about the spread of Luther’s thought, Worms Imperial Conference and the reform in Wittenberg in 1521. We will research the relevance between Luther’s thought, German conditions concerning social, economic & political, and the Reformation.
