Large chest wall defects require chest wall reconstruction to provide enough sturdiness and stability for chest wall. Otherwise there will be the chest wall softened and abnormal breathing, which should cause the disorder of respiratory and circulatory system, even death. Presently, the structure of the artificial chest wall in clinic is relatively simple, either the strip or plate structure, or the plane mesh structure. The strip or plate structure is used to repairing the rigid structure in chest wall defects. It has a well supporting function for chest wall, but is difficult to fix, which lead to damage the tissue because of the looseness postoperative, so the application is limited. The plane mesh structure can repair the chest wall defects well, but the rigidity is small and difficulty to repair the rigid structure, so the repairing effect is not very well. Therefore it is important to research the bionic artificial chest wall.Artificial chest wall repairing mesh with warp direction multi-tube can be called bionic artificial chest wall in structure combined with the proper artificial rib. But the manufacture of this mesh is difficult to manufacture so that its extension of application is restricted. As the same time, the artificial rib used in present has some disadvantages, such as surface smooth, less hole internal. These disadvantages go against the adhesion and growth to cell postoperative, and there are differences between the artificial rib and human rib in structure. The purpose of this research is to solve the problem of difficulty to make the warp direction multi-tube mesh, and research the artificial rib with good performance, so that these two parts can be combined well and take full advantage of the bionic artificial chest wall.The contents of this study is divided into three parts: The first part is the design and manufacture of the artificial chest wall repairing mesh with weft direction multi-tube; The second part is the design and manufacture of the artificial rib; The third part is establishing animal experimentation model to verify the rationality and effectiveness of the artificial chest wall designed and made.In the part one, the thought that form tube in weft direction by use of weaving method is proposed. Then the feasibility and advantages of this thought are discussed, and the design process is introduced in detail. According to the design thought, the technological parameters are chosen preliminary, some samples are made, and the performance evaluation is carried on. According to the evaluation result, the technological parameters are improved to make the artificial chest wall repairing mesh meeting the requirement of operation. The results show that the thought forming tube in weft direction can reduce the production difficulty of the artificial chest wall repairing mesh with multi-tube, and the improved technological parameters can make the samples meeting the requirement of operation.In the part two, the three-dimensional braiding structure is chosen as the structure of the artificial rib. The characteristics or advantages of this artificial rib are discussed, and the design process is introduced in detail. According to the design thought, the technological parameters are chosen preliminary, and some samples are made, then the performance evaluation is carried on. According to the evaluation result, the technological parameters are improved to make the samples that have the better performance. The results show that the samples using the improved technological parameters can meet the requirement of operation basically.In the part three, the animal experiment model is established by using the samples with good performance made above. The variation process of the artificial chest wall and the regeneration process of thoracic tissue in the animal body are observed dynamically to provide useful evidence for clinical application in the future. The results show that the artificial chest wall repairing mesh can repair soft tissue in the early stage after operation. And the three-dimensional braiding artificial rib is favorable to the regeneration of cell or tissue, and can provide enough supported function to guarantee the sturdiness and stability for chest wall in the later stage after operation.In conclusion, the combination of the artificial chest wall repairing mesh and the artificial rib manufactured in this study, not only repair the soft tissue in the chest wall defects, but also repair the rigid structure. They can reach the double repairing effects in the structure and function finally.
