OBJECTIVE:To improve young physicians, understangding of hypoparathyriodism and reduce the rate of misdiagnosis.METHODS:A medical record about hypoparathyriodism was analyzed and the literature was reviewed.DESIGN:Case report.PATIENT(S):A9-year-old female patient was admitted to our hospital complaining of intermittent convulsions, generalized muscle pain, heart palpitations. Comprehansive of her laboratory tests,hypoparathyriodism was diagnosed.INTERVENTION(S):At the beginning,the girl was given the treatment of positive anti-infection,nutrition muscle cell, energy support for seven days, the decline in creatine kinase is not obvious. Then pulsing the treatment of prednisone, the level of creatine kinase was still hign. The girl was given to the treatment of nutrition muscle cells for days again, but the level of creation kinase not yet retutned to normal. The third hospitalization due to repeated convulsions, she was given calcium and vitamin D3treatment.RESULT(S):The girl was discharged without further convulsions and a low level of creatine kinase.CONCLUSION(S):Hypoparathyroidism is an endocrine disease with low incidence and easily misdiagnosed as epilepsy. Tinely determination of urinary ions and parathyroid hormone(PTH) in the circulation along with electroencephalogram review after correction of hypocalcemia, you can avoid delays in diagnosis and treatment.
