Objectives: By the study in ischemic cerebrovascular disease, weinvestigat the levels of serum resistin, oxidized low-density lipoprotein(ox-LDL)and high sensitivity C reactive protein(hs-CRP)in patients withacute atherosclerotic cerebral infarction(ACI)and transient cerebral ischemicattack(TIA). To confirm the circulating resistin levels are correlated withinflammation markers and predictive of ischemic cerebrovascular disease. Toexplore serum resistin are associated with the development of carotidatherosclerotic. And then finding the potential role of resistin in atherosclerosisand especially its involvement in ACI and TIA. As a novel mechanism andbiomarker that may help predicting the severity of ischemic cerebrovasculardisease, and may lead to advances in ACI and TIA therapy and monitoring. Methods: Between April2011until December2011, We prospectivelyenrolled60patients of transient ischemic attack and40patients of acutecerebral infarction(66men and44women, mean age60±14years)who hadbeen admitted to the Department of Neurology from the Second Hospital ofHebei Medical University, Any patients with ischemic cerebrovascular disease, those who had been diagnosed by the Fourth National CerebrovascularDisease Conference in1995and the clinical definition of transient ischemicattack which was made by American Heart Association (AHA) and AmericanStroke Association (ASA) in2009. At the same time, as the normal controlgroup, we chosen30cases from medical examination center with no evidenceof ischemic cerebrovascular disease by CT or MRI. All the cerebral infarctioncases were within72hours since onset, and transient ischemic attack caseswere within24hours from the last episodes of attack. Any patients wereconfirmed by CT or MRI And the intima-media thickness(IMT)of the carotidartery was determined using of American Acuso sequoia521ultrasonography. The patients whose IMT≥1.1mm had been made a diagnosis of carotidatherosclerosis. The exclusion criteria in the present study included:CHD, HF,diabetes mellitus, renal dysfunction, infection, blood system diseases,self-autoimmune diseases and with a history of larger surgery or traumarecently and so on. The levels of serum resistin and ox-LDL in serum weredetected by enzyme-linked immune sorbent assay(ELISA), the levels ofhs-CRP in blood were measured by immune turbidimetry. All the dates wereanalyzed by SPSS13.0.Results:1. There were no significant differences in age or sex, bodymass (BMI) or blood pressure between case controls and ischemiccerebrovascular patients.2. Serum resistin was significantly higher in TIAandacute cerebral infarction patients with case controls. Furthermore ox-LDL andhs-CRP was significantly increased in TIA and acute cerebral infarctionpatients with case controls.3. In both of TIA and acute cerebral infarctionpatients all the four groups, after comparing each two groups, the level ofserum resistin was significantly increased in the patients with carotidatherosclerosis to the other patients without carotid atherosclerosis. And thereis no difference between the same group which with and without carotidatherosclerosis.4. In a spearman correlation analysis, serum resistin levelswere positively correlated with hs-CRP levels, and the same as ox-LDL levels(all P<0.05).Conclusion:1. Compared with the normal people the levels of serumresistin, hs-CRP, ox-LDL were significantly increased in the patients ofischemic cerebrovascular disease.2. Serum resistin levels were found to beassociated with further carotid atherosclerosis events in patients of ischemiccerebrovascular disease, and positively correlated with IMT values. But withthe same degree of carotid atherosclerosis there is no difference.3. Serumresistin showed a positively relationship with hs-CRP, and the bothproinflammatory cytokines may play a cooperative role in the development ofischemic cerebrovascular disease.4. Serum resistin showed a positivelyrelationship with ox-LDL, and the both proinflammatory cytokines may play a cooperative role in the development of ischemic cerebrovascular disease.
