Objective1.To describe social-demographic characteristics and physical condition of school-age children with nephrotic syndrome.2.To describe the current self-concept and perceived family support of patients.3.To analyze the relationship between the self-concept and perceived family support, disease-related knowledge in the school-age children with nephrotic syndrome.4.To explore and analyze the influencing factors of self-concept in the school-age children with nephrotic syndrome.Methods1.A total of65school-age children with nephrotic syndrome were recruited by convenient sampling method and were investigated with demography questionnaire, diseased-related questionnaire, PHCSS, perceived family support and diseased-related knowledge questionnaire.2.Statistical terms such as frequency, rate, mean and standard deviation were used to describe social-demography data, physical condition, total scores and scores of each dimension of self-concept,perceived family support and diseased-related knowledge. Analysis of variance was used to compile statistics of the difference level of self-concept among groups. The Pearson correlation analysis was used to analyze the relationship between self-concept and perceived family support, disease-related knowledge. Self-concept and each dimension scores as the dependent variable, disease-related conditions, dosage of hormone, total scores and scores of each dimension of perceived family support and disease-related knowledge as independent variable, multiple stepwise regression analysis was used to discussion the influencing factors of self-concept and each dimension.Results1.Current status of self-concept and perceived family support:The mean score of school-age children with nephrotic syndromes’ self-concept were43.05±8.59, which were lower than that in the norm. There were statistically difference of self-concept among different occupation, family structure, family income, disease period, times of hospitalization, recurrence rate, and so on.The total scores of perceived family support were52.78±4.26, which were relatively higher.2.The total scores and scores of four dimensions (behavior, anxiety, appearance and happiness) of self-concept were positively correlated with the perceived family support; The total scores of the disease-related knowledge was negatively correlated with three dimensions of PHCSS(behavior, anxiety and happiness).3.Multiple stepwise regression analysis showed the the main factors influencing the self-concept of school-age children with nephrotic syndrome were during of disease, perceived family support and the exercise times of outdoor. They were used to explain52.4%of self-concept. Dosage of hormone and family structure can predict39.1%of the variance in behavior; healthy knowledge and dosage of hormone can predict12.9%of the variance in intelligence; perceived family support, the exercise times of outdoor and during of disease can predict36.1%of the variance in appearance; perceived family support, hospital stays, the exercise times of outdoor, pay for medical treatment and family structure can predict57.1%of the variance in anxiety; the exercise times of outdoor and during of disease can predict21.1%of the variance in gregariousness; positive help can predict41.6%of the variance in happiness. Conclusions1.The total scores of the self-concept in school-age children nephrotic syndrome were low;The level of perceived family support were relatively higher.2.The self-concept of school-age children with nephrotic syndrome was influenced by the characteristics of social demography and disease-related condition, which included occupation, dosage of hormone, family structure, during of disease, times of hospitalization, recurrent rate, pay for medical treatment, and so on.3.The self-concept of patients was positively correction with perceived family support. The higher level of perceived family support, the higher of self-concept.4.The self-concept of patients was negatively correction with disease-related knowledge. The more knowledge got by parents, the lower of children’s self-concept.
