【Objective】The study is identify the relative factors of pharyngeal fistulaafter laryngectomy in laryngeal carcinoma patients, and the important role ofnutritional support in the process of treatment and the great meaning in improving thequality of life have been discussed.【Methods】The156cases of laryngeal carcinoma patients were reviewedretrospectively, which analyzed the relative factors of pharyngeal fistula afterlaryngectomy, compared the nutritional status between patients with pharyngealfistula and ones without pharyngeal fistula.【Results】pharyngeal fistula is the common complication after surgery oflarynx, lower pharynx and cervical esophagus carcinoma. The pharyngeal fistula onceformed should be treated promptly and effectively based on the size of the fistula andthe time it occurred. The study result shows that the risk factors of pharyngeal fistulawith statistical significance are smoking history(P<0.05), neck dissection (P<0.001)the same term operation, duration of operation(P<0.05), level of serumtotal protein (P<0.001)and albumin (P<0.001)after surgery, the change ofbody weight. But the age, sex, hemoglobin before operation, the staging of tumor, surgical option, hypertension or diabetes melitus(P>0.05)according our data arewithout significance. It was in the high risk of malnutrition in patients of pharyngealfistula after nutrition assessment.【Conclusion】 The occurrence of pharyngeal fistula is relative with theduration of smoking, neck dissection, duration of operation, level of serum totalprotein and albumin after surgery, the change of body weight. It could enhance the therapeutic response, reduce the rate of complication and improve the prognosis inoptimizing the general condition of patients pre-operation and synchronous nutritionalsupport.
