Low-quality sleep has adverse effects on human body, and can hardly helppeople recover from fatigue. Studies have shown that difficulty falling asleep, difficulty in awakening, shallow sleep, early waking up, and other sleep problems canlead to reduced attention and memory, slow response, and other cognitivedysfunctions.Civil servant is a special occupation for its nature and responsibility; sleepproblems affect more than the health status of civil servants and their work efficiencythemselves. So much attention should be paid on sleep problems of this group ofpeople.【Objective】 This study surveyed sleep quality of a group of Changchun civilservants and comprehensively investigated the influential factors, in order to providesuggestions of countermeasure to improve sleep quality of this group of people. Inaddition, sleep quality can be regarded as an index of healthy situation to providescientific basis for targeted interventions.【Methods】 For convenience,440serving civil servants of a direct affiliate ofJilin Province having health examination in the First Affiliated Bethune Hospital ofJilin University were selected as study subject. They filled in the survey under the guidance of investigators, and their sleep condition was recorded according to theself-rating sleep-quality scale (SRSS) by Li Jianming, in which, a total score over23indicates sleep disorders, and a single-factor score≥3is considered high score.Demographic characteristics and work habits were recorded according to the self-designed questionnaire, and influential factors affecting sleep quality were screenedout according to the survey results. Data were entered using Epidata3.02, andstatistical analyses were performed using SPSS20.0.【Results】(1)440serving civil servants of the direct affiliates of the provincegovernment were given the questionnaire, taken away those incomplete orincorrectly-filled,428(97.3%) qualified questionnaires were returned.173(40.4%) ofChangchun civil servants showed sleep disorders with no significant difference withthe national norm (P>0.05). Univariate analysis showed that night shift frequency isone of the influential factors of sleep disorders (P<0.05).(2) In the SRSS survey, Changchun civil servants got a total score of21.73±5.72,with no significant difference with the national norm (P<0.05). But6SRSS sub-scores, including insufficient sleep, sleep quality, lack of arousal, post-insomniaresponses, shallow sleep and early waking-up, showed significant difference incomparison with national norm (P<0.05). Gender, night shift, smoking and exercisesignificantly affected total score (P<0.05). Gender, age, night shift frequency, exercise, blood pressure and blood lipid significantly affected the insufficient-sleep sub-score.Gender, night shift frequency and exercise significantly affected sleep-quality sub-score (P<0.05). Exercise significantly affected lack of arousal (P<0.05). Age,education background and smoking significantly affected sleep-time sub-score(P<0.05). Gender and smoking significantly affected the shallow-sleep sub-score(P<0.05). Night shift significantly affected the early-waking-up sub-score (P<0.05).Gender, smoking, and blood pressure significantly affected the nightmare sub-score (P<0.05). Gender and age significantly affected the medication sub-score (P<0.05).Gender, age, smoking, drinking, exercise, blood pressure, blood lipid and metabolicsyndrome significantly affected post-insomnia-response sub-score (P<0.05).(3) Except for medication, all other sub-scores showed high rate of≥3scores,53%of the subjects in insufficient sleep,43.2%in post-insomnia response, more than30.0%in sleep quality, lack of arousal, sleep time, shallow sleep and early waking-up,and more than20.0%in difficulty falling asleep and nightmares. Logistic regressionanalysis showed that gender, age, night shift and exercise were the influential factorsof high insufficient-sleep score (P<0.05); exercise and smoking were the influentialfactors of high lack-of-arousal score (P<0.05); age and smoking were risk factors ofhigh sleep-time score (P<0.05); smoking was a risk factor of high shallow-sleepscore and especially a risk factor of high nightmare score (P<0.05); gender and agewere influential factors of high post-ammonia-response score (P<0.05).【Conclusions】 Changchun civil servants showed sleep-disorder conditionssimilar with that of national norm. They showed high incidence of sleep disorder andthe problem of sleep disorder was severe. Changchun civil servants showed high rate(≥3) in many SRSS sub-scores, especially in insufficient sleep and post-ammoniaresponses. Age, gender, night shift frequency, and exercise are the influential factorsof sleep quality.
