Objective:This study is to investigate the occupational commitment of the clinical nursesfrom grade Ⅲ-A hospitals in Changchun City, and analyze its influence factors, andthen provide suggestions about promoting the occupational commitment level of theclinical nurses, aiming to reduce the turnover rate, stabilize the clinical nursing team,and improve nursing qualiy.Methods:A questionnaire was applied on438clinical nurses from four grade Ⅲ-Ahospitals in Changchun City from June to November2012.The questionnaire includedthree parts: general information of clinical nurses, occupational commitmentquestionnaire, work environment satisfaction questionnaire. Set up database byEpidata3.0and analyzed it by SPSS17.0, using the descriptive analysis, t-test,one-way ANOVA, Kruskal-Wallis H test, pearson correlation analysis and multiplestepwise regression analysis.Results:1. The average score of the occupational commitment is3.29±0.59, according tothe evaluation standard of original questionnaire, it is at the middle level. Accordingto the scores from high to low, the sequence is “normative commitment”,“emotionalcommitment”,“economic cost commitment”,“opportunity commitment” and“emotional cost commitment”.2. The average score of the work environment satisfaction is3.49±0.58,according to the evaluation standard of original questionnaire, it is at the middle level.According to the scores from high to low, the sequence is “shifts in principle”,“teamwork”,“nurse participation in hospital affairs”,“personal development”,“management patterns”,“work safety” and “work repay”.3. There are statistically differences on the occupational commitment level between the clinical nurses with different personal characteristics (P<0.05), such asage, income, contract type, marital status, professional title, night shifts and years ofworking.4. There is a significant positive correlation between the overall and alldimensions of work environment satisfaction and that of the occupationalcommitment (except the opportunity commitment)(P <0.01).5. After a further analysis of multiple stepwise regression,age, night shifts andyears of working,“work safety”,“personal development” affect the general level ofthe level of the occupational commitment remarkably(P<0.01),and age,“worksafety”,“personal development” for positive effects; night shifts (≥3), years ofworking (10-15) for negative effects.Conclusion:1. The occupational commitment of the clinical nurse is at the middle level andstill needs to be improved.2. There are statistically differences on the occupational commitment levelbetween the clinical nurses with different age, income, contract type, marital status,professional title, night shifts and years of working, especially age, night shifts andyears of working.3. The work environment satisfaction of the clinical nurses affects theoccupational commitment level significantly, especially “work safety” and “personaldevelopment”, so it is suggested that nursing administrators should pay more attentionto the safety of nursing work environment and the personal development as promotingthe occupational commitment level.
