There are no significant differences of the three groups in age, gender, diseases and general information. The control group was treated only by Amlodipine Besylate Tablet,5mg once a day. The treatment group A was treated by Modified Pinelliae and Atraetylodis Macroeephalae and Gastrodlae Decoction combined with Amlodipine Besylate Tablet. And the treatment group B was treated by Modified Pinelliae and AtraetylodisMacroeephalae and Gastrodlae Decoction combined with Amlodipine Besylate Tablet plus acupuncture. The duration of the treatment for the three groups was fourteen days. The observation focused on blood pressure, clinical symptoms, signs and laboratory tests before and after treatment as well as the adverse reactions during treating process of all patients. Related data were statistically analyzed afterwards. Results:the results of treatment group A and B were superior to control group in effective rate of hypertension, range of descending blood pressure, reducing heart rate, the total effective rate of the clinical effects. At the same time, there were improvements on clinical symptoms such as dizzy, headache, blood stasis and spitting phlegm and insomnia in those two groups(P<0.05). Furthermore, the symptoms such as dizzy, headaches and blood stasis could be eliminated by the treatment in group B. There were no obvious differences in the treatment group A and B in antihypertensive effects (P>0.05).Conclusion:the effects of the two treatment groups were superior to control group. There are satisfactory effects and no toxic-side effects of treating older essential hypertension (phlegm and blood-stasis blocking collaterals syndrome) by Modified Pinelliae and Atraetylodis Macroeephalae and Gastrodlae Decoction and acupuncture, which provides important value to the clinical application.
