Background Intracranial neoplasm is very harm to the function of human nervous system. At present, surgery is commonly used as a basic treatment in clinic. With the in-depth implementation of holistic nursing, nurses have found that the relatives of intracranial neoplasm patients have to afford two stressors during perioperative period:the disease and the surgery, their psychological conditions had direct effect on the patients’ health, however, there were rarely reports and studies about psychological condition of relatives. So my research through the investigations of the psychological condition and the impact factor of relatives of intracranial neoplasm patients during perioperative period have important significance to pay attention to the relatives’psychological heath to promote the patients’recovery. Objective To describe the psychological experience of relatives of intracranial neoplasm patients during perioperative period, investigate the psychological condition of them, and discuss the psychological health condition and correlative factors. Methods The first Portion:From January2011to May2011, as the guide of the phenomenological approach of qualitative research, using purposive sampling, choose a three-A hospital in Beijing, using semistructured in-depth interviewing method to interview10relatives of postoperation intracranial neoplasm patients, we refine the subject from analysis the collected data. The second Portion:From September2011to December2011, using the descriptive correlation research method, choose two neurological surgery Institutes in Beijing,242relatives of intracranial neoplasm patients during perioperative period, participants were asked to provide demographic information and to complete study questionnaires which included symptom checklist90(SCL-90), parent’s perception uncertainty scale-family members(PPUS-FM) and simplified coping style questionnaire (SCSQ). The data was analyzed with deseriptive statistical methods,t-test, One-ANOVA, Chi-square test, Kluskal-Wallis, Pearson partial correlation analysis and Multiple linear stepwise regression by SPSS17.0.Results The first portion:Three major themes and eight secondary concepts of inner experiences of intracranial neoplasm patients’relatives during perioperative period: physical and mental pressure, uncertainty and hope. The second portion:(1)Comparing with the national normal general score and each factor score of SCL-90,without sensitive interpersonal relation and paranoid factors, the sgeneral score(156.26±16.34) and each factor score of SCL-90of intracranial neoplasm patients’relatives during perioperative period were obviously higher than national norms(p<0.01).Comparing with the preoperative group general score and each factor score of SCL-90,the general score, compulsion factor and psychotism factor of the postoperative group have significant difference(p<0.05).(2)The total score of PPUS-FM is85.12±17.83; Comparing with the general score and each dimensionality of PPUS-FM of the preoperative group, nondeterminacy dimensionality and complicacy dimensionality of PPUS-FM of the postoperative group have significant difference(p<0.05).(3)Comparing with the score of active coping style dimensionality and negative coping style dimensionality of the general population, the average score of active coping style dimensionality(1.89±0.57)and negative coping style dimensionality(1.18±0.39) of intracranial neoplasm patients’relatives during perioperative period have significant difference(p<0.05).The negative coping style dimensionality of postoperative group have significant difference(p<0.05).(4) The results of t-test, One-ANOVA analysis showed that sex, age, education, and patients relationship, economic status and patients with and fee had influence for SCL-90total score, the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05).The results of multiple linear stepwise regression showed that there were three variable in the regression equation according to the size of the impact in order:gender, age and their patients and the length of diseases of their patients.(5) Correlation analysis showed:The general score of SCL-90and PPUS-FM has negative correlation(P<0.01); each factor of SCL-90is negative correlated to uncertainty dimensionality, complexity dimensionality and information lacking dimensionality (P<0.05). Positive coping styles dimensionality is significantly positive correlated to the general score of SCL-90(p<0.01), while negative coping styles dimensionality is significantly negative correlated to the general score of SCL-90(p<0.01).Conclusion The relatives of intracranial neoplasm patients had the bad mental health condition during perioperative period, the mental health status of the postoperative was more poor than preoperative. The relatives of intracranial neoplasm patients:female, ages greater than50years, and length of diseases more than3months,would need more care. The higher Illness uncertainty feeling they have, the worse mental condition they will get. The more positive coping style is taken, the better mental health condition they will have.
