Chief Physician Wei Zhongnan’s Experience Summary In The Treatment Of Chronic Renal Failure

Wei Zhongnan Director who is one of the China’s first National Excellent Chinese Medicine Talents has mainly aimed at renal disease, and not only that, he has been engaged30years on the internal medicine of renal disease with abundant clinical experience. In clinical practice, he insists on the thought of "integrating traditional Chinese and western medicine". Besides, he attaches importance to the traditional Chinese medical classic theories, and has been using the classical theories to guide clinical work effectively. Mr. Wei has created effective methods and prescriptions for patients with chronic renal failure (CRF) based on many years of experience, which may be the most effective and feasible treatment programs. CRF is not only a frequently-occurring, difficult and serious disease in nephrology, but also a big problem of traditional Chinese and western medicine treatment. Modern medicine treatment of this disease mainly depends on symptomatic treatment and replacement therapy, and there is a lack of more effective prevention and control measures. Not only does Chinese medicine have a clear advantage for the prevention and treatment of the disease but also have a long term effectiveness. However, there is lack of an effective combination of Chinese and western medicine, and also lack of holistic and effective integration of research, practice and summary. This paper sums up the experience of Professor Wei Zhongnan in clinical diagnosis and treatment of CRF, to search for the most effective integration of academic thinking and clinic characteristics. Further, it provides better clinical diagnosis and treatment for CRF, and carrys forward the traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) theory and practice to a higher level of development.Wei Zhongnan Director holds that there is the spleen-kidney qi deficiency as the root causes and overabundance of dampness turbidity, blood stasis, aggregation-accumulation as the manifestation causes of CRF. He creatively expands the four examinations in TCM, deeming that the disease location can extend to kidney collaterals and a micro level. Thence, Mr. Wei pays close attention to the aggregation-accumulation of kidney collaterals to the performance, effects and treatment of the disease, and attention to use blood-activating and soften hardness medicinal. He adheres to the holistic view of the harmony between man and nature, combining disease and syndrome, integration of Chinese and western, linking treatment and prevention in the treatment, and underlines the importance of psychotherapy and dietetic care. Mr. Wei attaches importance to the integrated therapy on CRF. He proposes the thoughts of protracted war, and reinforces the healthy qi and eliminate the pathoge in the treatment.
