With the development of the information technology and its wide application in medical area, different medical information systems are relied on to collect, record and process a mass of medical data generated in kinds of medical activities. These medical data is usually saved in a large number of medical documents. These medical documents are required not only to handle structured data which is recognized by computer but also to support precise style of WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) which is welcomed by medical workers. In traditional medical information systems, MS WORD and some similar tools are used to edit medical documents. Although these tools support strong composing, they cannot support edit on structured data. Some forging medical documents systems, such as OpenSDE, can support structured data entry but in these systems WYSIWYG is not supported. What’s more, because of complexity and variability of medical activities, it is necessary to change style of the medical documents according to different patient data and the change of medical activities. This is a big challenge when designing medical report systems. To solve the problems mentioned above, this thesis does a thorough research on WYSIWYG structured document system. The system can not only meet requirements on editing different medical documents in a precise style but support dynamic style updating. The specific content of this thesis includes the following aspects:■First, the thesis analyzed data types in medical documents and summarized the existing problems. Then the research objective of the thesis was proposed which was a WYSIWYG structured medical document system. Based on analysis of correlation techniques on medical documents, the thesis designed technical framework of the medical document system. After that, the research content of this thesis was proposed.■After analysis of medical data in kinds of common medical documents, the thesis concluded typically visualized objects with their characteristics on layout, data and associated relationships. Based on that, a method for medical document expression with visualized objects as the core was proposed. The designing scheme includes design of format of layout file, format of data file and format of associated relationships file.■With the design of visualized objects, the thesis designed a series of visualized components and then a visualized component library was built by these visualized components with good expandability. Based on the visualized component library, a structured medical document template designer and a structured medical document editor were designed which can be applied in different medical information systems. With these tools, precise styles of different medical documents can be designed in WYSIWYG mode and the styles can be updated dynamically during editing according to setting of associated relationships.■In order to validate the medical document system the thesis designed, two typically clinical application scenes were selected. One is editing medical examination multimedia reports in physical examination information system. The multimedia reports require precise tabular style and dynamic update. The other one is editing medical records homepage in EMRs in which document style mainly included text and paragraph. The result shows that the medical document system the thesis designed can be applied into different clinical scenes under WYSIWYG mode. For the medical documents, both precise style and dynamic update during edit are supported. As a key component, the WYSIWYG structured medical report system the thesis proposed has been applied in many kinds of products in clinical applications such as physical examination information systems and medical imaging systems. In the future, the proposed medical report system will be improved continuously on extension of visualized component, improvement of rule, inclusion of standardization and so on so that the system can be applied into more medical occasions.
