Research Background:As a common and frequently-occurring respiratory disease, asthma is characterized by airway inflammation, airway hyperresponsiveness and reversible ventilator dysfunction. Because of the long-term recurrent during the process, asthmatic patients were susceptible to COPD, pulmonary heart disease and with poor prognosis. Asthma has become a global social health issue by now, and bring about a serious threat to the human health.GINA recommended to apply the classification of asthma control level method in order to assess asthma control situation. The method divided asthma into three levels, that are control, partial control and uncontrolled. However, the results of the series of studies on the status for the Global Initiative for Asthma (AIR) in2000have demonstrated that the global asthma patient’s condition did not achieve the GINA control ideal objectives. The new target, proposed by GINA in2010, for asthma treatment was to achieve and maintain asthma control and reduce the future risk.It is not satisfactory for the global asthma control at the current situation. One of the very important reason is that it is failed to effectively carry out the education and management for the asthma patients.During the usual clinical work, doctors often blame the patients because patients increase or decrease the hormone dosage by themselves and the incorrect using of the metered dose inhalers and so on. Due to the presence of these reasons, it would result in the failure of treatment for asthma. Therefore, it could reduce the recurrence rate of asthma by carrying out the health education for asthma patients, and at the same time could improve and strengthen the live ability of asthma patients and improve their quality of life. Objective:The aim of this study was to explore the effects of health education intervention on asthma control level for asthma patients through the survey of general demographic information, asthma clinical characteristics of patients with asthma, the Asthma Control Test (ACT), and pulmonary function.Materials and Methods:116asthma patients were selected from the clinic and randomly divided into patients with health education group (who were treated with standard asthma treatment and health education) and the control group (who were treated by standard asthma treatment only). All the patients were followed up for3months. In our study, we would scored them in terms of demographic data, clinical features of asthma, asthma cognitive level, medication compliance and Asthma Control Test(ACT) and pulmonary function before and after the Health education for all patients respectively, and compared the data of above parameters obtained before and after the intervention and the data from health education group and control group. Results:In our study,10cases was lost to follow-up,and116cases completed the study at last. There were68patients in the health education intervention group and48patients in the control group. The results showed that patients with acute attack times, ACT score, pulmonary function indicators and asthma control situations of the health education intervention group after6months’ health education, were significantly improved, and the difference was statistically significant (p<0.05). Otherwise, compared the contents above of the control group before and after intervention, it was not statistically significant (p>0.05). Meanwhile, compared with the control group, the contents above of the health education intervention group were improved with statistically significant differences(p<0.05). Conclusion:The standardized health education could improve the quality of life significantly, decrease the asthmatic symptoms, reduce the number of acute onset, result in asthma control and maintain, meanwhile the pulmonary function of patients with asthma was improved, in order to make more patients live as normal people.
