Abstract/Summary:
Objective:Every woman must undergo menopausal phase. At this time, the ovaryfunction starts to subside, the female hormone declines, and the body function isweakening. Normally, most women can adjust these changes, and pass through thisstage smoothly. But due to many complicated factors, such as body constitution,family problems, social background, psychological conflicts, working environment,part of the women would have perimenopausal symptoms which will influencemenopausal women’s quality of life. According to the previous theme study whichshows a close relationship between women’s manopusal symptoms and social-cultural background. Up to now there are very few studies are conducted in ourcountry about menopausal symptom levels and their relationship with different socialsystem and different cultural background. The objective of this study is to compareHong Kong and Yunnan Province women menopausal symptomatic levels and toanalyze the reasons of their differences.Methods: A16item self-administered questionnaire was conducted to investigate thesocial-cultural background of Hong Kong and Yunnan Province women; Self-RatingManalpausal Scale(MRS),Self-Rating Anxiety Scale(SAS)and Self-RatingDepression Scale(SDS) were adopted to survey294Hong Kong Women and372Yunnan females. Results:1. The score of MRS on Yunnan women was14.95±8.65,Hong Kongwomen was11.53±7.46, the score of Yunnan women was significantly higher thanHong Kong women(t=-5.47P<0.001).2. On SAS level, the score of Yunnanwomen was39.91±8.63, which was significantly higher than Hong Kong35.68±6.75(t=-7.10P<0.001)3. On SDS level, the score of Yunnan women was58.42±10.26, Hong Kong was53.92±8.95, the score0f Yunnan women was significanthigher than HK (t=-6.03P<0.001).Conclusion:The manalpausal symptomatic level of Yunnan women was significantlyhigher than Hong Kong. The result can be attributed to the combined reasons ofbiological-psychological-social and cultural background. Yunnan Province shouldexpand the preventive health care policies and to provide supports to the manalpausalwomen, as a result to improve their quality of life.
