ObjectiveOur study was to describe the correlation between PICC-CRBSI andobstruction of the postoperative gastrointestinal cases, which provided clinicalbasis and reference to reduce the PICC complications.Methods210cases were randomly chosen up to the standard among thepostoperative gastrointestinal patients with PICC from JinZhou Central Hospitalgeneral surgical wards. The PICC obstruction was observed and the infectionwas showed through PICC end bacterial culture after treatment (10±4days) aswell as the distribution of susceptible strains. The data base was made bySPSS13.0software. Through comparison analysis,2-test and coefficient ofcontingency were used to show the correlation and the difference of infectionand obstruction with different sex, age, with or without diabetes and cancer. Thestatistical significance was confirmed with P﹤0.05.ResultsAmong our210cases, the incidence of CRBSI with obstruction was20,constituted9.52per cent; that of CRBSI without obstruction was8, constituted3.81per cent; that of obstruction without CRBSI was11, constituted5.24percent; that of cases without both was171, constituted81.43per cent. Thesignificant relationship between PICC-CRBSI and obstruction was confirmedthrough2-test(P﹤0.05),while no statistical difference of infection rate andobstruction rate was showed with different sex, age, with or without diabetesand cancer(P>0.05). ConclusionIn our study, PICC infection and obstruction were indifferent of sex, age, with or without diabetes and cancer, but the relationship between PICC-CRBSIand obstruction was significantly confirmed. So both PICC infection andobstruction should be comprehensively considered in clinical nursingprocedures. Combination of methods preventing infection and obstructionwound be an effective method to reduce PICC complications.
