Expressions Of STAT3and Bcl-2and Their Significance In Primary Gallbladder Carcinoma

Objective:To investigate the correlations of signal transduction and transcription activated factor3(STAT3) and apoptosis inhibition protein Bcl-2with the clinicopathologic features of gallbladder carcinoma and evaluate its role in diagnosis and treatment of gallbladder carcinoma, by comparing their expressions in the gallbladder carcinoma tissues, the pericarcinomatous tissues, gallbladder tissues with benign lesions.Methods:Using the immunohistochemical staining method (SABC) to detect the protein expressions of STAT3and Bcl-2in gallbladder carcinoma tissues (n=41), the pericarcinomatous tissues (n=21), gallbladder tissues with benign lesions (chronic cholecystitis with cholesterol polyps, n=21), and analyzing their associations with the clinicopathologic features of gallbladder carcinoma, such as age, sex, pathological classification, Nevin staging, lymph node metastasis, etc.Results:(1) The positive rates of STAT3protein and Bcl-2protein are significantly different in the gallbladder carcinoma tissue, pericarcinomatour tissue and the gallbladder tissue with benign lesions,(P<0.05). The positive rates of STAT3protein and Bcl-2protein in gallbladder carcinoma tissue and pericarcinomatour tissue were markedly higher than those in the gallbladder tissue with benign lesions,(P<0.05).(2) In the gallbladder carcinoma tissues, there was a close relationship between the expression of STAT3protein and Bcl-2protein,(P<0.05).(3) In the gallbladder carcinoma cases,, the expression intensities of STAT3and Bcl-2were not associated with the age and gender of patients respectively (P>0.05), but correlated to pathological types, Nevin stage, and lymph node metastasis,(P<0.05).Conclusion:The upregulation of STAT3and Bcl-2proteins probably participate in the occurrence and development of gallbladder carcinoma.
