Clinical Study On The Treatment Of Knee Osteoarthritis Of The Stagnation Blood Stasis Type By Electroacupuncture

Objective:The purpose of study is to observe the clinical curative effect of Electroacupuncture treatment on patients with stage I of the stagnation blood stasis type of knee osteoarthritis, to compare the clinical curative effect of the treatment group (Electroacupuncture group) and the control group (Gluosamine Hydrochloride Capsules group),to test the level of matrix metalloproteinases-3(MMP-3),interleukin-1(IL-1) in the knee Synovial Fluid prior and post treatment. In sum, the study aims to understand the Electroacupuncture treatment mechanism of the knee osteoarthritis so as to supply scientific reference to clinical treatment.Methods:Use a prospective study, all60of the knee osteoarthritis patients who conform to inclusion and exclusion criteria,(all the patients are from the Department of Acupuncture and Moxibustio, the Department of Orthopedics at The Second People’s Hospital of Fujian province，and the Department of Orthopedics at Fujian Provincial Hospital). Employ the simple randomization method,60patients are included.23males and37females aged50-75years are divided into2groups by random.30patients are in the treatment group (the Electro-acupuncture group).30patients are in the control group (This group takes Gluosamine Hydrochloride Capsules). The treatment group was treated with the master acupoint:Ex-LE04;Ex-LE05,the matching acupoint:ST36;SP10,inflict a moderate stimulation, mild reinforcing and attenuating. After the patients have needling response, contact the Electroacupuncture in Ex-LE04and Ex-LE05,using low frequency dilatational wave (2/100Hz,9v) and take off the needle after retaining30minutes.The treatment is once every day for15days as a period of treatment. There are five rest days in between each treatment. Statistical curative effects are recorded after two periods of treatment. The control group takes Gluosamine Hydrochloride Capsules,0.75g (One capsule is taken daily, before or after meals). Statistical curative effect is recorded after5weeks. Patients are prohibited to take the other KOA drug during the treatment. The statistics are different among the two groups with the clinical symptoms scores, WOMAC and the content of IL-1, MMP-3 prior and post treatment. All the data acquisition utilizes SPSS18.0software.Results:(1) By the end of treatment, the effective rate of treatment group is89.65%, and much better than the control group78.57%(P<0.05).(2)The statistical results show that, after treatment, the treatment group could decrease the Clinical symptoms scores, but the treatment group not different of the control group (P>0.05),(3) The statistical results show that, after treatment, the treatment group could decrease the WOMAC, were significantly better than the control group (P<0.05), indicating that the electro acupuncture treatment has a better effect.(4) The statistical results show that, after treatment, the treatment group could decrease the content of IL-1, MMP-3obviously, were significantly better than the control group (P<0.05), indicating that the electro acupuncture treatment has a better effect.(5) The dependability of the patient’s clinical symptoms scores, WOMAC and IL-1, MMP-3’s content show that all scores have direct correlation and P<0.05, concluding that patient’s clinical symptoms have an obvious relationship with IL-1, MMP-3.Conclusion:By the end of treatment, the effective rate of treatment group is89.65%, and much better than the control group, the treatment group could decrease the Clinical symptoms scores, WOMAC, content of IL-1, MMP-3obviously, indicating that the electro acupuncture treatment was a Effective way of treatment.
