Objective:The mechanism of acupuncture points in central nervous system has been issues of concern to many researchers, there are a large number of studies have shown that point effect on the brain neural activity in the brain oxygen changes have a significant effect, resulting in functional imaging changes performance. And it can lead to changes in the NMR signal of the corresponding region. So using fMRI as a research tool to explore acupressure LI4affect brain function in patients with peripheral facial paralysis, to analysis the central regulatory mechanism.Materials and Methods:The study included twelve cases of the standard of healthy volunteers and two cases right peripheral facial paralysis patients, including4men and8women (average age43±5.258), and peripheral facial paralysis with one men and one women (age60,59years years old, respectively). FMRI testing procedures in accordance with the design of the block method, acupressure each acupoints foe30s,and wait for30s, followed by acupressure30s, and then stop the30s, and so forth, co-stimulatory6min. The fMRI data were analyzed by statistical parametric mapping based on Matlab6.5platform SPM (Statistical parametric mapping)software to analyze brain functional images. Results:The data is used the t-test analysis of single factor to process the group active domain value with the10contiguous voxels (p<0.001). Acupressure the right side of paralysis in patients with the left side of LI4signal increased:the right middle frontal gyrus, right inferior frontal gyrus, right cerebellum, right cingulated, Left medial frontal gyrus, left postcentral gyrus, left middle frontal gyrus, left inferior frontal gyrus, left superior temporal gyrus, left middle temporal gyrus, left inferior temporal gyrus, left middle occipital gyrus, left inferior parietal lobule and left cerebellum, bilateral insula lobe. The left side of LI4signal increased and of Rouan healthy volunteers:right medial frontal gyrus, right postcentral gyrus, right temporal lobe. Conclusion:There is a certain correlation between acupoint stimulation and brain regions. The acupressure of LI4point on Bell’s palsy patient can activate multiple brain areas such as left anterior central gyrus, insula, right callosal gyrus, and so on. The activated brain regions are right anterior central gyrus, right gyrus centralis posterior, and right temporal lobe for the healthy man, which means changes of the scope and location in signals on brain regions between the healthy man and the patient are caused by stimulus on the same points in the same way.3. The mechanism of point LI4treating diseases in the face and mouth is related with activation of many brain regions.
