The competition in modern society, the final analysis is talent competition.The advantage of conquest is owed by possessing a sufficient number of high quality talents. The healthcare industry is to provide public products for people. The sufficient numbers of nurse talents must be possessed to improve the medical care and eliminate the hidden medical danger for providing high quality, safer and more effective medical service under the fierce competition. The essay seeks out the solutions and ways to solve the shortage of nurse talents through the research and analysis of the shortage problem of nurse talents in W hospital and eliminate the hidden medical danger to improve the nurse quality, competitiveness and the degree of satisfaction. Meanwhile, it can provide experience to other hospitals.W hospital was established in1903, and it is a comprehensive hospital with National level3grade, which is located in Y city in southwest of Sichuan province. It can be divided into three parts. There are1333Authorized beds and2000Open beds in the hospital with1300on-the-job employees including doctors, nurses and full-time managers. Just as competition for the best of the bunch is growing, the brain drain of nurse is getting worse. There are still many unstable factors in the nurse which lead to the declining of the nurse quality. The proportion between nurse and Authorized beds is less than the industry requirement (0.4:1). The shortage of nurse talent becomes a barrier to a developing hospital.The shortage problem of nurse is an important part of Health human resources management research. The research to nurse paid more attention to the ability training and business management before. However, the shortage of nurse (in total more than100people) is becoming a commonly-concerned issue now. How to solve the problem will become an important part of the future research.Therefore, based on the motivation theories, Career planning theories, Human capital theories and Modern enterprise management theories such as Maslow’s hierarchy of needs theory, Frederick Herzberg’s motivation-hygiene theory, McClelland’s achievement need theory, Adams’Fair theory, Froom’s expectancy theory and Skinner’s reinforcement theory, the essay analyses the reasons which caused the shortage problem of nurse by doing field investigation and research to the situation of nurse shortage in W hospital. Moreover, it puts forward the corresponding count ermeasures with integration of theoretical and practical way.
