Abstract/Summary:
Objective:To establish the protocol of individualized real-time dynamic3D digital model construction with volume Dicom data from CT/spiral CT scanning by OSIRIX software package, and to assess the clinical application values as well as efficacy of such virtual model in diagnosis, treatment planning, and prognosis evaluation in various types of diseases in oral maxillofacial surgery.Methods:53cases who have been under impatient treatment in department of Oral Maxillofacial Surgery, Tianjin Fifth Central Hospital and Affiliated Stomatological Hospital of Tianjin Medical University respectively (Jan.2008to Dec.2010) were screened to be included in this study. Among these53cases,20cases were diagnosed as maxillofacial fracture, while5cases as condylar fracture,10cases as craniofacial malformation,3cases as trauma with embedded foreign bodies,8cases as impacted wisdom teeth, and7cases as jaw bone tumor. Reconstruction of digital model was performed with Osirix software to convert the volume datas exported from spiral CT scanning into a virtual pattern to establish the dynamic3D digital model, Thereafter, the3D model was applied to assist clinical diagnosis, preoperative operation plan, postoperative efficacy evaluation and other aspects. The auto-measuring datas acquired by the software were compared with those obtained in actual clinical practices to verify the accuracy of this protocol, and to evaluate its clinical value. Results:With assistance of Osirix virtual model and dynamic visual demonstration, Oral Maxillofacial surgeons could achieve a good preoperative understanding of the operation area in accordance with the individual physiological status and anatomical structure, recognize the pathological change more accurately, and perform final surgery very efficiently without any damage to important structures, Furthermore, more minimally invasive surgery could be realized with the help of real-time3D analysis on the platform of Osirix. Conclusion:Osirix software analysis system could be very conveniently used by Oral maxillofacial clinicians in preoperative diagnosis, treatment planning, operation design and simulation, and postoperative prognosis evaluation. With its good accuracy and high data reliability, the clinicians’diagnosis and treatment efficiency and clinical outcomes could be improved dramatically.
