Objective: Investigate the infection rate and prevalence characteristic ofTTV and HGV among118thalassemia major patients in Guangxi. Methods: A total of one hundred and eighteen blood samples werecollected from thelessemia major patients (74males and44females, aged2to25years old) from different regions of Guangxi. All patients were tested for thepresence of TTV and HGV using ELISA method. The patients were divided intoage, sex, blood transfusions and living region groups. At last,we calculated theinfection rate in different groups about TTV and HGV.Results:1.Among the118thalasemic major patients,TTV was detected in4patients(3.39%).In the young individuals(lesser10years old),the TTV wasdetected in2(2.25%) of the89patients.And the TTV was also detected in2(6.9%) of the29patients(greater than10years old)(P>0.05).In the males, theTTV exposure was found in3(4.05%) of the74patients.And the TTV exposurewas found in1(2.27%) of the44female patients (P>0.05).No difference wasfound in the prevalence of TTV between the north region(3of46,6.52%) andsouth region(1of72,1.39%)(P>0.05).In the number of blood transfusions groups,TTV was detected in2(7.41%) of27patients(lesser20U),1(1.85%) of54patients(20U-100U),1(2.7%) of37patients(greater than100U)(P>0.05)2. Among the118thalasemic major patients,HGV was detected in8patients(6.78%).In the young individuals(lesser10years old),the HGV wasdetected in7(7.87%) of the89patients.And the HGV was also detected in1(3.45%) of the29patients(greater than10years old)(P>0.05).In the males, theHGV exposure was found in5(6.76%) of the74patients.And the HGV exposurewas found in3(6.82%) of the44female patients (P>0.05).Obvious differencewas found in the prevalence of HGV between the north region(7of46,15.22%)and south region(1of72,1.39%)(P<0.05).In the number of blood transfusionsgroups,TTV was detected in1(3.70%) of27patients (lesser20U),3(5.56%)of54patients (20U-100U),4(10.81%) of37patients (greater than100U)(P>0.05)Conclusion:1. The prevalence of TTV among thalassemia major patientsin Guangxi is3.39%.The infection rate is lower than other literature.Nodifference was found in the prevalence of TTV in groups of age,sex,bloodtransfusion,regions.2. The prevalence of HGV among thalassemia major patients in Guangxi is6.78%. The infection rate is lower than other literature. There were nodifference was found in the prevalence of HGV in groups of age, sex, bloodtransfusion.
