Objective:To investigate the association of central obesity with carotid intima-media thickening in Han, Uygur and Kazak female population of Xinjiang. Methods:Four-stage selected random samples with age at35or over were used to analyze the questionnaire, blood pressure, height, weight, waistline, hip, Laboratory test and ultrasound. The samples adult population were collected from6localities. Results:14618people were surveyed,7294people were female. The female population was divided by WHR index which was more than0.9. The systolic pressure, diastolic pressure, urea nitrogen, fasting blood-glucose, triglyceride and total cholesterol in the WHR≥0.9group were higher than the WHR<0.9group, which was of significance, P=0.000. In analysis of covariance, the Uygur and Kazak population of IMT in WHR≥0.9group were of significance comparing to the WHR<0.9group, P=0.000. There was a rising trend in WHR≥0.9group with age rising. In Logistic regression, WHR≥0.9was a independent risk factor of IMT in all nationalities, which was of significance. Conclusion:WHR is associated with IMT, which has a more stronger correlation with Uygur and Kazak female population. Also, WHR≥0.9was a independent risk factor of IMT in all nationalities.
