Objective:Hepatitis C is an infectious disease distributed around the world, it is likely to be chronic and does serious harm to human health, meanwhile, it falls in the categories of "Immunotoxin","jaundice","hypochondriac","plot" of traditional Chinese medicine. Through the investigation of patients with chronic hepatitis C, this study aims to reveal the infection routes of hepatitis C, the laws of age distribution, and the characteristics of syndrome distribution, thus to provide clinical reference for the TCM syndrome classification. Meanwhile, through the collection and analysis of the chemical indicators of patients with chronic hepatitis C, this study explored the relationship between TCM classification of chronic hepatitis C and each micro indicator, so as to provide reliable clinical information for the treatment of chronic hepatitis C with the advantages of Chinese medicine and characteristics.Methods:35cases of patients with chronic hepatitis C confirmed and treated in the Hubei Hospital of Chinese Medicine from July2009to August2010were selected, then we conducted the epidemiological investigation, collection of clinical data, including the symptoms, medical history, laboratory tests (such as liver function examination, HCV-RNA, HCV, genetic typing test, etc.), tongue and pulse, etc., a database was established and SPSS13.0medical statistical software was taken for data analysis to explore the TCM syndrome distribution characteristics of chronic hepatitis C, as well as the relationship between TCM classification of chronic hepatitis C and each micro indicator.Results:1. In the35cases of chronic hepatitis C, there were15males,20females, and the male to female ratio was1:1.3, the oldest patient was72years old, the youngest one was17years old, the mean age was46.2. In the35patients,29got infected through blood transfusion,6were infected for unknown reasons, indicating that blood transfusion is the main route of transmission.3. In the35patients, the detection of HCV positive was considered as the initial point of HCV infection duration, with a longest duration of25years, and the shortest of1month, and averaged11.34years. But it was found in most hepatitis C patients that the symptoms were hidden in the acute and early stage, so the specific assessment of duration would be a difficult job.4.82clinical symptoms and signs were obtained from this survey, variables of an incidence below10%was removed, and the variables of high incidence rate were yellow urine (80%), malaise and fatigue (77.14%), irritability (74.29%), thirst (68.57%), dizziness (65.71%), spontaneous perspiration (65.71%), yawning (62.86%), visual fatigue (60%), forgetfulness (60%), back pain (57.14%), abdominal distension (54.29%), pale looking (54.29%).5. We took the SPSS13.0medical statistics software to conduct cluster analysis base on the data of35patients, with reference to the TCM syndrome differentiation of viral hepatitis (Trial), then the TCM syndrome of chronic hepatitis C was divided into five categories:The first category was liver depression and spleen deficiency, with a total of15cases, the second category was liver-kidney deficiency, with a total of8cases, the third category was virtual evil type, with a total of5cases, the fourth category was spleen and kidney yang of4cases, the fifth category was damp heat and internal resistance, of3cases.6. The TCM syndrome distribution characteristics of chronic hepatitis C, as well as the relationship between TCM classification of chronic hepatitis C and each micro indicator have been explored, and no significant correlation was found between the syndrome pattern and abnormal liver function, HCV genotyping, or HCV RNA.Conclusion:The survey shows that5syndrome patterns are consistent with the syndromes of TCM chronic hepatitis C, the chronic hepatitis C has a long duration and varied symptoms, mainly including liver depression and spleen, liver and kidney symptoms, the basic mechanism is the pathogenesishot and humid immunotoxin invasion of the body, causing liver and spleen damage, liver failure catharsis, internal resistance, blood stasis, and ultimately the interlace of deficiency and excess. The exploration of TCM syndrome distribution characteristics of chronic hepatitis C, as well as the relationship between TCM classification of chronic hepatitis C and each micro indicator will actively promote the modernization of Chinese Medicine.
