Objective: To establish methods of inducing deficient heat syndrome in Rats and toevaluate the signs and symptoms of the model, and to observe the influence of CommonAnemarrhena on changes of energy metabolism and related indexs in rats with deficientheat syndrome. To analyse the tendency, characteristics of the effects. To explore theobjective indexes, that can reflectes Cold and Heat Property of experimental animal. Toprovide useful knowledge for clinical medicine. Methods: In order to induce deficiency-heat model in rats, decoction of three Chinesemedicinal herbs with hot property, aconite, dried ginger and cinnamon were administeredintragastrically to rats for14days. After the model was successfully produced, decoctionof Common Anemarrhena was given for7days for treatment. The effects on generalcondition, temperature, cold and heat preference in deficiency-heat model rats after drugadministration were observed. Collecting the food, water, urine and dung in quantity of ratsfor24hours with metabolic cage. The EI, DE, FE and ME were detected by Oxygen HeatCalculation. T3, T4in blood serum were analyzed using Enzyme-linked immunosorbentassay. Fasting blood sugar, hepatic glycogen and LD levels were measured. The activitiesof hepatic ATPase. The EC and the content of ATP in liver were dected using HPLC.Results: Rats in model group looked mania, weight and toes temperature reducedsignificantly,T3and T4levels in blood serum increase significantly. PLS analysis shownthat the sample points of deficient heat syndrome group and control group was completely separated, which was clearly differentiated. After the treatment with CommonAnemarrhena, T3and T4levels in blood serum, toes temperature, Urine volum, Drinkingamount reduced significantly. Fasting blood glucose significantly increased. Conclusion:Deficient heat syndrome in Rats can be induced successfully withChinese herb of hot property Aconite, Dried ginger and Cinnamon. Common Anemarrhenacan decrease energy metabolism of deficient heat syndrome in Rats, and deficiency heatstate can be improved. Pharmacological action related closely in energy metabolism oflivers decreasing and secretion of thyroid hormone decreasing. Effective appraisalindicators of the cold and heat property of TCM include thyroid hormone, weight,Drinking amount, Urine volum, Fasting blood glucose.
