Expression Of Twist And E-cadherin In Tongue Squamous Cell Carcinoma And Its Clinical Significance

Purpose:Squamous cell carcinoma(SCC)is the most common type malignant tumors in oralmaxillofacial,whose morbidity and mortality rates at the top of oral cancer.It has anycharacteristic such as high degree of malignant,strong infiltration,lymph nodemetastasis,distant metastasis and poor prognosis.We can not study clearly about themechanism of the tumor’s infiltration and metastasis.Recently studies shown that thereis a consanguineous relation between EMT and the tumor’s infiltration andmetastasis.Twist and E-cadherin are important biological indicator of EMT. We usedimmunohistochemistry to detect the expression of Twist and E-cadherin and discuss thesignificance.Methods:Choose62cases tongue squamous cell cancer specimens and10cases nomaltonque tissues specimens. Immunohistochemistry was used to detect the expression ofTwist and E-cadherin in62cases of TSCC specimens and10cases normal tonquetissues specimens.Results:⑴The positive expression cases of Twist in62cases TSCC specimens was48cases, the positive rate is77.42%（48/62）, the positive expression cases of Twist in10cases normal tongue specimens was1cases, the positive rate is10%(1/10); Theexpression of Twist in TSCC specimens was significantly higher than in normal tonque tissues specimens(P<0.05).⑵The positive expression cases of E-cadherin in62cases TSCC specimens was22cases, the positive rate is35.48%（22/62）, all of the10cases normal tonguespecimens present E-cadherin positive expression, the positive rate is100%(10/10); Theexpression of E-cadherin in TSCC specimens was significantly lower than in normaltonque tissues specimens(P<0.05).⑶The expression of Twist and E-cadherin in TSCC was correlated with tumorinfiltration,TNM stage and lymph node metastasis(P<0.05), but not correlated withpatients’ age,gender and tumor pathological grade(P＞0.05);⑷A signigicant negative correlation was noted between the expression of Twistand E-cadherin in TSCC(r=-0.728,P<0.01).Conclusion:The abnormal expression of Twist and E-cadherin in TSCC means that they maybe involved in the invasion and metastasis of TSCC. Detection the expressions of Twistand E-cadherin should be useful for estimating the development and prognosis ofTSCC.
