Ornithogalum caudatum (Ornithogalum Caudatum Ait) Department of Liliaceae Ornithogalum, common name the Pearl, aka Scilla, hyacinth orchid, is a perennial evergreen herbs. Native to Africa, northern China has cultivated. Ornithogalum caudatum AIT have high medicinal value, folk complete grass is used as medicine, anti-inflammatory and anti-tumor treatment for disinfection. Northeast China folk for the treatment of periarthritis of shoulder, anti-inflammatory analgesic effect surprising good. In addition,the Ornithogalum ait caudatum has strong antitumor activity, Ornithogalum caudatum AIT saponins OSW-1is common in anticancer drug camptothecin, doxorubicin, paclitaxel and anticancer activity of10-100times.At present, numerous studies in the pharmacological and chemical aspects of Ornithogalum caudatum ait, especially in the study on antitumor effect of the most widely reported. Antioxidant capacity of organism anti tumor effect is one of the important mechanisms, research shows that many have anti-inflammatory, antiviral, anti-tumor activity of Chinese herbs, has strong antioxidant ability and eliminating free radical activity.Anti lipid peroxidation and activity of free radical effect of Ornithogalum caudatum ait has not been reported. In this paper, study on the Ornithogalum caudatum ait antioxidation, this study could provide a theoretical basis for Ornithogalum pharmacological effects and its mechanism of action, to provide a scientific basis for Ornithogalum clinical medicine and Ornithogalum resources for further development and utilization.This experiment using pharmacological and scavenging free radical method of Ornithogalum caudatum ait, ethanol extracts antioxidant activity carried out a preliminary study. In vitro antioxidant activity of study using phenanthroline-Fe2+oxidation, adjacent benzene three phenolic autoxidation method and DPPH method for determination of hydroxy free radical scavenging capacity, scavenging superoxide anion and DPPH free radical ability, and screening out the best antioxidant activity of ethanol volume fraction and effective parts. In vivo studies on the antioxidant activity of method is the Ornithogalum caudatum ethanol extract with low high school in three different doses on murine intragastric administration for14days, through the determination of mouse serum and liver tissue of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and malondialdehyde (MDA) numerical changes of Ornithogalum caudatum ethanol extract on antioxidant activity.An in vitro study results show that, the volume fraction of70%Ornithogalum caudatum ethanol extract not only crude total saponin content in the highest, and the antioxidant activity is also the strongest; butanol phase removal of OH, O2’s and DPPH three radicals in the most comprehensive ability. The results of in vivo studies show that70%ethanol extract, Ornithogalum caudatum butanol phase can effectively improve the in vivo SOD quantity, reduce the number of MDA, a significant antioxidant effect.
