Objective:To evaluate the clinical efficiency and fracture resistance of cast posts and that of fiber posts when they were used in the restoration of endodontically treated teeth(ETT),we could summarize the relevant randomized clinical trials(RCTs) on this fields.This study was designed to use meta-analysis to compare the success rate and fracture load between cast metal posts and fiber posts after root canal therapy.Methods:The Chinese literatures published in2001-2011about the difference between the success rate of cast metal posts and that of fiber posts were collected.We searched CNKI(China National Knowledge Infrastructure) and CBM(China Biology Medicine disc) MEDLINE, CENTRAL electronically, and made a hand-searching covering22dental journals. Two reviewers independently extracted data from included studies according to the inclusion criterion.Meta-analysis was done with the software Review Manager5(RevMan5) and the quality of evidence was evaluated by CONSORT (consolidated standards of reporting trials,CONSORT) for Experiment1.Results:Experiment1.8literatures were eligible for inclusion in this meta-analysis.Nine hundred and twenty-nine patients were involved. The RR(risk ratio) and95%CI(confidence interval) were0.92and0.87-0.98.P=0.006,which indicated there were statistically difference between the two groups.Experiment2.13studies met the inclusion criteria.The results were combined to get pooled estimates of the overall weighted mean difference(WMD) for the comparison between FR of CP and FR of FP(WMD=58.27;95%confidence interval[CI],2.82~113.73;P=0.04),which indicated there were statistically difference between the two groups.Conclusions:Experiment1.Fiber posts have a higher success rate when used in the restoration of endodontically treated teeth.Experiment2.The difference between the FR of CP and FR of FP was statistically significant(P=0.04) Cast posts had higher fracture resistance than fiber posts.
