Objective:To explore the curative impact of anterior bite splint for severe deep overbite with temporomandibular disorders(TMD), and investigate the influence of the splint preliminarily on cerebral blood flow, by observing and contrasting the craniomandibular index (CMI)、TA and MM electric potential and the changes of blood speed in the middle cerebral artery(MCA) during masticatory action pretherapy and post-treatment.Methods:5deep overbite patients with TMD who needed anterior bite splint treatment were selected. The splint were made after clinical checking. Measuring the CMI, the electric potential of TA and MM in resting state and strongly biting state, Vs、Vd、Vm of MCA during masticatory action in pretherapy and post-treatment. Finally the dates were made statistics analyzing.Results:1. Craniomandibular index (CMI):the CMI were reduced with statistical significance.(P<0.05)2. Myoelectricity:(1) Resting state:After therapy, the myoelectricities of TA and MM were diminished, and the differences possessed statistical significance.(P<0.05).(2) Strongly biting state:After therapy, the myoelectricities of TA and MM were enhanced, and the differences possessed statistical significance.(P<0.05) 3. Transcranial Doppler (TCD):the Middle cerebral artery blood flow velocity increased significantly higher after chewing movement than before the anterior bite splint treatment for one month, and the Vs、Vd and Vm all increased.(P<0.05)Conclusions:1. Anterior bite splint can significantly relieve the clinical symptom in deep overbite patients with TMD.2. Chewing exercise can improve blood flow velocity in the Middle cerebral artery and increasing cerebral blood supply.3. Anterior bite splint can effectively promote the blood flow in MCA.
