ObjectiveTo explore the effects of home-based aerobic exercise on fatigue, depression, sleep and muscle force for hemodialysis patients, so as to provide the basis ofimproving the hemodialysis patients’ physical and mental health quality. Meanwhile,to make up a right method of exercise for the hemodialysis patients and provide thebasis for nurses to guide the patients to do exercise.MethodsFrom December2010to September2011, eighty hemodialysis patients from afirst class hospital of Shaoyang were randomly divided into experiment group (n=40)and control group (n=40). Based on the conventional maintainance hemodialysis(MHD) nursing, we performed six months home-based exercise on the experimentgroup. The patients went through a6months exercise programma, including fastwalking and up and down stairs,40-60min/day,3days a week. The target exerciseintensity was set at sixty to eighty percent of peak heart rate, and the Rating ofPerceived Exertion was set at12to14. The control group took the conventional MHDnursing. The fatigue, depression, sleep quality, STS-5and STS-60of both groupswere evaluated before exercise,after3months and6months exercise respectively.Fatigue of participants was evaluated with Revised Piper fatigue scale (RPFS), anddepression assessed by Self-rating Depression Scale (SDS), sleep quality evaluatedwith Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). The sit-to-stand-to-sit test was used toassess lower-extremity muscle strength. Statistics methods included T test, χ2test,Wilcoxon Rank Sum test and ANOVA of Repeated Measure.Results1The indexs of patients in the two groups were compared at the different time1.1The scores of fatigue, depression and sleep quality of the experiment group afterthree months excise and after six months exercise were lower than those of beforeexercise, and the time of STS-5was shorter than that of before exercise, and the times of STS-60were more than those of before exercise, and there were allstatistical differences (P<0.05).1.2The scores of fatigue, depression and sleep quality of the experiment group aftersix months exercise were lower than those of after three months exercise, and thetime of STS-5was shorter than that of after three months exercise, and the timesof STS-60were more than those of after three months exercise, there were allstatis-tical differences (P<0.05).2The indexs of patients in the two groups were compared at the same time2.1After three months exercise, the scores of depression and sleep quality of theexperiment group were lower than those of the control group, the time of STS-5was shorter than that of the control group, and the times of STS-60were morethan those of the control group, there were all statistical differences (P<0.05).2.2After six months exercise, the scores of fatigue, depression and sleep quality of theexperiment group were lower than those of the control group, the time of STS-5was shorter than that of the control group, and the times of STS-60were morethan those of the control group, there were all statistical differences (P<0.05).ConclusionHome-based aerobic exercise can relieve the hemodialysis patients’ fatigue, alle-viate their depression, promote their sleep quality and strengthen the myodynamia, soit can improve the hemodialysis patients’ physical and mental health quality.
