Objective To explore temporal-spatial parameters characteristics of gait of Chinesenormal adults. This information can be used by clinicians to assess the pathological gait. Bycomparing temporal-spatial parameters between patients with hemiplegia and normalpeople and the changes of temporal-spatial parameters in different periods after wearing theprosthetis, investigate the clinical value of temporal-spatial parameters in rehabilitation ofhemiplegia and amputation.Methods365healthy adults were divided into10groups according to their ages andgender. It was20-29year group,30-39year group,40-49year group,50-59year group andabove60year group. They received a gait analysis with the GaitMat which could providetemporal-spatial parameters. At the same time, we collected temporal-spatial parameters of26patients with hemiplegia and21patients with above-knee prosthetic wearers. Comparethe temporal-spatial parameters between patients with hemiplegia and normal people andthe changes of temporal-spatial parameters in different periods after wearing the prosthetis.Results1. The men walked faster than the women excluded the third decade and above sixthdecade (P<0.05). The velocity decreased with age in both genders and started to decreaseduring the fifth decade for both men and women (P<0.01). The step length of the men islonger than the women, and it started to decrease during the fifth decade for the women andduring the sixth decade for men(P<0.01);2. The patients of hemiplegia have significant differences compared with the normalcontrol group in velocity, step length, support time and the percentage of support time(P<0.01). The velocity and step length of hemiplegic patients were lower than thenormal control group(both P<0.01). However, the support time and thepercentage of support time were higher than the normal control group (both P<0.01).3. The velocity and step length of the prosthetic wearers were significantly increased after1and3month(both P<0.01). However, the single support time was significantlydecreased (P<0.01). After3month, the velocity and step length of the prosthetic wearerswere slightly decreased compared with the normal group(both P<0.05). However, there wasno significant difference in single support time compared with the normal group (P>0.05).At the same time, the gait symmetry of the health to the suffering from both sides graduallyapproaches to1in the prostheses correction process.Conclusion1. Establish the reference base of temporal-spatial parameters of Chinese normaladults with GaitMat technology for the first time. Preliminarily reveal temporal-spatialparameters characteristics of gait of Chinese normal adults.2. As a simple and quantifiable indicator, the temporal-spatial parameterscharacteristics of hemiplegia will used to develop rehabilitation program andassessment rehabilitation outcome in clinic.3. As simple, quantifiable and sensitive indicators, the temporal-spatial parametershave a very important clinical value in prosthetic stereotypes, correction and walkingfunction evaluation of the prosthetic wearers.
