Objective: To analyze the skin lesions, neuralgia and other clinicalmanifestations of shingles patients, discusses the population characteristicsof herpes zoster in the crowd, studies the efficacy differences betweenconventional therapy and nerve block treatment with shingles patients, toprovide a reference for clinical diagnosis and treatment.Methods:336HZ patients were selected from our discharge note,who were admitted into the dermatological department and the PainManagement of the First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing MedicalUniversity, as herpes zoster from January2008to December2010. Dividedall the HZ patients into young and middle-aged group (under50years old)and the elderly group (50years old and above), the age, season, locationsand eruption—pain sequence were recorded, The differences of thesefactors between the two groups were compared.Eliminate those cases withillness influenced shingles (such as tumor, diabetes), get155cases, thendivided the patients into group A (under50years old) and group B (50years old and above), the rash type, admission pain score, the length of thecourse and the hospital pain score were recorded. The differences between the two groups were compared, then retained those cases from group A andgroup B, which treated without hormone and the length of treatment from7to14days, divided those cases into group C (common treatment group) andgroup D (nerve block group), compared the differences of pain betweengroup C and group D.Results:1, The incidence of herpes zoster has a sharp rise in the olderpeople beyond50, and its peak age between60and69;2, The incidence ofherpes zoster has no seasonal differences;3, there was a statisticaldifference of the incidence rates in the head and face, Chest ribs, waist andabdomen (P <0.05);4, there was no statistical difference of the incidencerates between middle-aged and younger people (P>0.05);5, There was nostatistical difference in the degree of the lesions between middle-aged andelderly, but middle-aged group had the trend to more severe type;6, theearly admission of patients, there was a statistical difference of admissionpain and hospital course between young group and older group in thedermatological department (P <0.05), and it’s different in the PainManagement (P>0.05);7, There was a statistical difference of improvingpain between nerve block treatment and conventional therapy (P <0.05).Conclusion: The incidence of HZ has no seasonal differences,without the effect of underlying diseases, medication and so on, there was astatistical difference of the level of pain and recovery time between theelderly people and the younger people, it needs to strengthen the treatment in HZ patients.
