Objective: To investigate the differences and influencing factors aboutthe fine motor development between preterm and full term infants.Methods:215infants (including97preterm infants and118full terminfants) were evaluated by the second edition of the PeabodyDevelopmental Motor Scale (PDMS-2), and the fine motor quotient (FMQ)was analyzed by SPSS.Results:1)The raw scores of grasping and visual motor integrationincreased as the months of age increasing. FMQ (uncorrected),FMQ(corrected) and FMQ(term) at different months of age were significantlydifferent (F=25.135P<0.05;F=28.634P<0.05;F=12.151P<0.05);2)The FMQ (uncorrected)89.58±5.43of preterm was significantly less thanFMQ (93.90±6.65) of term infants (t=5.142, P<0.05);3) The standardscores of grasping were less than visual motor integration. The differencewas statistically significant (d=-1.00±1.24,t=-11.881P<0.05);4) Thestandard scores of grasping and visual motor integration in preterm infantswere less than full term infants. The difference was statistically significant (t=4.695P<0.05; t=4.385, P<0.05);5) The considerable monthage of grasping and visual motor integration was significantly less than thetruth month age both in preterm and term infants(P<0.05);6) FMQ wasinfluenced by gestation age(GA), birth weight(BW), test-tube baby or not,feeding-skills training, height, weight. Conclusion: The fine motor of the infants have been developing withage increasing, and the fine motor development at different age groups aredifferent. So we would give some advises about growing up by the regularpattern of fine motor development; the preterm infants slower than the terminfants on fine motor development during the infant period, and thedevelopment of grasping fall behind the visual motor integration; Also, prolonging the GA and increasing the BW by enhancing the health careduring gestation, enhancing the skills of hands by feeding-skills trainingconsciously after birth, and maintaining appropriate growth aresignificantly important to fine motor development.
