A Study Of An Educational Intervention On Prevention Of Falls In Hospitalized Older People Among RNs

Objective： To explored the effectiveness of an educationalintervention on prevention of falls in hospitalized older people among RNs.Methods：74RNs were recruited to this study by ConvenientSampling. All of them were received an Organized educationalintervention and compared the knowledge, attitude and behavior before andafter the intervention about how to prevent falls in hospitalized olderpeople.Results：1.74nurses(100%) feel satisfactory or very satisfactory with thetraining program.72(97.3%) nurse feel satisfactory or very satisfactorywith training environment and tools.68nurses (91.9%)feel satisfactory orvery satisfactory with the arrangement of the training course.2. After the training, the scores of the knowledge test rised,thedifference was statistically significant(z=-7.270, p<0.05).3. After the training, the average scores of FAQ1test rised from13.17to19.22,the difference was statistically significant (t=8.74, p=0.029). 4. After the training, there is a positive change in nurse’ attitudetorward older people. The average score of KAOP scale rised from149.8to155.5, the difference was statistically significant (t=2.132, p=0.038).Score of negative attitude torward older people rised from74.1to78.2,and the difference was statistically significant (t=2.386, P=0.021). Scoreof positive attitude torward older people rised from75.2to77.3, but thedifference was not statistically significant (t=0.829, P=0.411).5.179questionnaires(94.7%) made it clear that nurses usedknowledge of the training in their work.Conclusions： Organized educational intervention is effective toimprove ability of RNs on prevention of falls in hospitalized older people.
