Objectives: To understand the pattern of overall fall among older people living in organizations for the aged in jiujiang City.To explore the risk factors of fall and to evaluate the effect of multifaceted intervention among older people living in organizations for the aged. Methods: All the subjects were aged 60 years or older excepting mental disorder, senile dementia and cognitive disorder who had lived in organizations for the aged over one year before march 2006. The method of randomized controlled trial was used in this study. All the subjects were assigned into intervention group (n=108, missing 2 cases)and control group (n=96). fall intervention programme was implemented in the intervention group. including lectures about fall prevention, individual education and behavior intervention ,Environmental modifications and exersice regularly everyday. After one year intervention ,A11 of the data from baseline and follow-up surveys were collected ,checked and coded. Analyses were conducted using SPSS12.0 for Windows. Results: Assessment of baseline showed the rate of fall is 44.12%. Data from Logistic Regression analyses showed that risk factors for fall were including spouse, metier, the number of illess, fear of fall, poor physical condition, depression, reasons of enter nursing home. Both groups had similar levels of fall incidence before intervention. Outcome evaluation demonstrated significant difference between two groups after one year intervention(P<0.05); Fall incidence rates of intervention group less than the one of control group. In addition, it was reavealed that the intervention led to changes of some fall characteristics and knowledge and action about fall among older peoples. Conclusions: The incidence of fall was considered to be high among old people lived in organizations for the aged. The risk factors for falls is the outcome of combined effect of multifactors .The intervention programme appears to be an effective method for fall. But in thislong-term effect was not assessed. so further study is needful andanticipated. |
