A Double-elastic Dressing For Hypospadias Surgery

Objective:Newer and innovative technique is coming up in this regard.One such method is ideal and fulfill the requirements of penile dressing for hypospadias surgery.Materials and methods;We retrieved data of hypospadias procedures from July2009to March2011from Our cases records, whose age ranged from10months to37years(mean13.7years).11cases have no history of hypospadias repair,69cases have a history of hypospadias repair.All the patients underwent a double-elastic dressing after hypospadias repair.(Put a silica gel stent cather into the reconstructed urethra to provide an uniform mild compression from inside. And combine mepitel with tubular elastic net dressing to dress post-operative hypospadias to provide an uniform mild compression from outside.)Results:A double-elastic dressing applied to all the89post-operative hypospadias patients:The dressing remained intact in all the cases until removed post surgery there was no incidence of slippage of the dressing. And it accommodate the erect and flaccid states of the penis. Post operative removal of the dressing was very convenient and painless. Mepitel is semi-transparent, It also allow for easy inspection of the repair of the penis. The dressing is clean. And without making the surrounding skin soggy. It has no oozing, hematoma formation or infection. And associated with lower incidence early complication.Conclusions:A double-elastic dressing for hypospadias is simple, reliable, stable, snugly fitting, transparent, waterproof, nonallergenic. easy to remove with minimum discomfort. and effective in dry and wet states. It should also allow for easy inspection of the repair and accommodate the erect and flaccid states of the penis while providing uniform mild compression. It should enhance wound healing, tissue adherence, and edema resolution, and prevent hematoma formation, oozing, or infection. It should stabilize the penis and the tube to immobilize the repair.It should be devoid of sutures, and should not cause ischemia, or interference with the patient’s mobility. Fulfill the requirements of penile dressing for hypospadias surgery. It is an important measure to guarantee the success of hypospadias repair. And should be use widespread.
