OBJECTIVE: To investigate the dietary state, knowledge of healthydiet, eating attitudes and eating habits of diabetic Patients. Meanwhile, todetermine whether adding mobile application coaching would improvetheir dietary structure, eating attitudes and habits as well as to enrich theirhealthy diet knowledge.RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS: A total of60patients wereenrolled and included in included in the questionnaire surveys for theirdietary state, knowledge of healthy diet, eating attitudes and eating habits.Patients were randomized to intervention group and the control. Theformer receive diet and diabetes education during hospitalization.Furthermore, to receive consults continuously by sending short messageafter discharge from hospital. The latter only receive education duringhospitalization. Follow up for three month.RESULTS: The daily intake of livestock and poultry meat, milk, eggs, fishes and shrimps, fruits and beans for subjects takes207.8%、34.5%、57.7%、50.4%、43.3%、27.7%of the recommendedrespectively.The course of disease is associated with the intake ofvegetables, livestock and poultry meat, eggs, fishes as well as the eatingattitudes score (R=0.2、-0.2、0.2、-0.3、0.3respectively, P<0.05). TheQuestionnaire shows the habit distribution for eating moreroughage(n=15,25%), eating on time (n=43,71.7%), animal oilintake(n=4,6.7%), drinking frequently(n=16,26.7%), eating snacks (n=7,11.7%), eating time>10minutes(n=34,56.7%)and intake too much highcalorie foods(n=17,28.3%).The proportion of peoples habit with cereals, livestock and poultrymeat, high calorie foods intake and drinking for intervention group isreduced compared with the baseline. Furthermore, vegetables intakes,healthy diet knowledge score, roughage intakes, the people of eatingsnacks, eating time>10minutes and eating on time is increased(P<0.05).The healthy diet knowledge score of intervention group is higher than thecontrol group(P<0.05).Conclusion:1. Diabetic patients often eat too much red meat, meanwhile Theintakes of milk, eggs, fishes and shrimps and beans are insufficient.2. Educational background have positive correlation with the theintakes of cereals and meat, but have negative correlation with fishes intakes for diabetic patients. Course of disease have positive correlationwith the intakes of vegetables,eggs and the score of their eating attitudesand healthy diet knowledge, but have negative correlation with meatintakes.3. Most patients can eating on time, however their intakes ofroughage are insufficient, some of which have the bad habit of intaking tomuch animal oil and high calorie food as well as drinking.4. Mobile Phone Short Message education can correct bad habit forpart of the patients, meanwhile increase the proportion of the people withhealthy diet habit.5. With compare to the control group, it is mobile Phone ShortMessage education that can enrich patients healthy diet knowledge.
