Objective: To try a new method in clinical treatment of cleft lip, teaching simulation, and the doctor-patient communication by combination of computer technology with thetraditional cleft lip surgery. Methods: According to the classification standard of cleft lip, equally illuminated photo of30congenital non-syndromic unilateral complete cleft lippatients had hospital treatment in the Maxillofacial Surgery department of the FirstClinical College of Xinjiang Medical University with frontal view of neutral expressionwere collected along with the pre, intra and postoperative recovery video material. RPBFwas used as a feature point’s extraction method for2dimensional photos,30patient’sfacial feature points, total of1200(40points each) were extracted. Universal threedimensional model of neutral face was constructed, via3ds Max software, using the facialpoints as data information, and accomplished the virtual surgical procedure of Tennison’stechnique by further mesh editing and animation method. Results: Virtual surgicalrepairing procedure of unilateral cleft lip using Tennison’s technique including: pointing, incision, restoration, and suturing, was achieved process of fixing point, leaning, incision. Conclusion: Preliminary establishment of virtual unilateral Tennison’s repair techniquedemonstrated the feasibility of combination of computer technology with traditionalmaxillofacial surgery, and explored a brand new three dimensional virtual platform for thetreatment, teaching, and research of oral and maxillofacial region.
