Objective:Try to evaluate the factors which are commonly related to bone mineral density (BMD) in postmenopausal women with type2diabetes (T2DM) by using factor analysis. Methods:The clinical measurements, laboratory measurements and BMD dat were collected in416postmenopausal women with T2DM. Factor analysis was used to extracte the common factor and calculate the factor score. The common factors’ scores were compared in groups(normal BMD, osteopenia, osteoporosis) divided by BMD.Results:Three common factors representing the BMI and insulin resistance factor, the aging and renal function factor and the lipids metabolism factor were extracted from the original factors. Significant differences of the common factors’scores existed among groups. BMD was positively related with the BMI and insulin resistance factor, the lipids metabolism factor, but negatively with the aging and renal function factor. Conclusions:Our research showed that main factors related to BMD in postmenopausal women with type2diabetes are the BMI and insulin resistance factor, the aging and renal function factor and the lipids metabolism factor. BMI, insulin resistance and high serum cholesterol are favorable factors for BMD in them, but senior age and worse renal function are detrimental to BMD.
