Relationship Between Type2Diabetes After Roux-en-Y-gastric Bypass And C-reactive Protein Levels

Objective:The aim of the present study was to investigate whether CRP is altered and whether there was any correlation between reduced body mass index (BMI) and decreased CRP level in type2diabetes mellitus patients after gastric bypass surgery.Methodsr:In total,50T2DM individuals were studied prior to3and6months following Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) surgery. Serum concentrations of CRP,glucose, lipid, HbA1C, insulin levels and BMI were obtained. They were compared among the groups and their correlation were analysed.Results:(1) Prior to surgery, markers of CRP, glucose, lipid, insulin levels and BMI were elevated compared to the reference range of healthy normal subjects (P<0.01).(2) Postoperatively, all the marker levels were improved in patients. Compared with the preoperative, FPG, PPG, TC, TG, LDL-c, FINs, HbAlc, CRP, BMI levels were reduced significantly in T2DM group after3months (P<0.01).(3)6months after surgery compared with3months after surgery, FPG, PPG, TC, TG, LDL-c, FINs, HbAlc, CRP, BMI levels were reduced significantly (P<0.01).(4)At3months and6months postsurgery, CRP, glucose, lipid, insulin levels and BMI were significantly reduced (P<0.01). Compared to the reference range of healthy normal subjects, markers of CRP, glucose, lipid, insulin levels and BMI was not statistically significant after surgery Six months.(5) Compared to the fourth to the sixth month, the decrease of FPG, PPG, CRP, FINs and HbA1c in the first three months of the post-operation period is greater (P<0.05)(6)At6months postsurgery, CRP correlated with insulin levels(r=0.63, P<0.01) but not BMI.Conclusions:There were significant reductions in CRP, glucose, lipid, HbA1c, insulin levels and BMI after gastric bypass surgery. The relation between CRP concentrations and insulin lever is independent of BMI.
