Objective:To study whether using gastrointestinal anastomosis (GIA) stapler and associating with gastrostomy during radical cystecomy, and gum-chewing during the postoperative period facilitate the recovery of bowel function.Methods:83patients underwent radical cystecomy were divided to two group,43cases underwent intestinal anastomosis by gastrointestinal anastomosis (GIA) stapler and associate with gastrostomy,other40cases underwent intestinal tract anastomosis by traditional suture, The mean operation time, the time of intestinal anastomosis, the time to flatus, incidence of ileus were compared. From April2011to April2012,35patients underwent radical cystecomy were divided to two group by chewing gum after operation or not, the time to flatus, incidence of ileus were compared and analysised. Results:The recovery time of bowel function in GIA stapler group was shorter than TS group(87.3±12.2h vs95.8±14.5h P<0.05).The median time to flatus and to bowel movement were significantly reduced in chewing gum group compared with the control patients (78.5±10.3h vs84.8±12.5h P<0.05)Conclusions:Using GIA stapler and associating with gastrostomy during the radical cystecomy and gum-chewing after the opereation could benefit recovery of bowel function.
