Objective: To explore the clinic significance of two posterior operative ways on axialsymptom for CSM.Method: Analyzing the cases of CSM during4years (from October,2007to January,2011) treated by two posterior operative ways in Spine Department, Affiliated Hospital ofShandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the author collected40patientswith complete date and meeting the criteria after the surgery by means of telephone, mailand out-patient and then divided them into group A and group B. Group A includes19cases underwent laminectomy and lateral mass screw fixation, and group B includes21cases of received open-door laminoplasty. The follow-up period was6-72months, inwhich the author compared the improvement rate of the both groups and evaluated the twocurative effect according to pre-and postoperative spinal cord JOA scores. Meanwhile, postoperative cervical curvature index and axial symptoms were also analysed in thearticle.Result: Comparison of JOA scores, postoperative cervical curvature index and axialsymptoms shows that the change of pre-and postoperative spinal cord JOA scores has nodifference between the group A and B. However, cases underwent laminectomy and lateralmass screw fixation has a good clinical outcome and a preventive effect on thedevelopment of postoperative axial symptoms. It is also a reliable method to maintain thecervical alignment. Conclusion: Under the premise of the scientific and accurate operating with strictlymastering indications, to treat the patient with laminectomy and lateral mass screw fixation has a good clinical outcome and a preventive effect on the development of postoperativeaxial symptoms. It is also a reliable method to maintain the cervical alignment, and play apositive role to maintain postoperative cervical long-term stability.
