Fatigue is the inability to continue functioning at the level of one’s normal abilities[1‐3].This is a protective response preventing the failure of body function, reminding workersreduce the intensity of work to avoid body injury. As fatigue would seriously affect theability and efficiency of operators, researches about searching materials with anti-fatigueeffect turns to be critical. Former studies has proved that thermal environment couldaccelerate the occurrence of fatigue. Large areas of our country located in tropical andsubtropical region. in this region, the average temperature exceeds28℃with the extremetemperature up to41℃, and the relative humidity even approches to98%. Whereas, specific micro-climate environments, such as protective clothing, closed compartments, smelting factories are also the common high-temperature operating environments. Therefore, study of anti-fatigue material especially under the thermal environment appearsto be much more important. In this study, Sixty volunteers were enrolled in the double-blind, placebo-controlledtrial. Each person of the CETM group or placebo group takes8pills of the agents twiceeach day for8days. Before and after the intervention trial, the physical endurance indicessuch as VO2max,PWC170 and step index, blood biochemical indicators including bloodglucose and blood lactate, and fatigue index were detected respectively for evaluating theeffectiveness of CETM. Meanwhile, safety evaluation of CETM were processed bymeasuring the concentration of white blood cells, red blood cells, hemoglobin, platelets, total bilirubin, direct bilirubin, total protein, ALT, AST, urea nitrogen, creatinine and uricacid just after the intervention trial. In this study, the main results and conclusions are as follows:1.According to the baseline analysis, there were no significant differences between the CETM group and the placebo group.2.After the intervention trial, scores of VO2max, the PWC170 and step index of theCETM group are significantly higher than those of the placebo group (P <0.05). meanwhile, scores of VO2max, the PWC170 and step index of the CETM group was significantlyhigher than before the intervention trial (P <0.05). The above results show that CETM cansignificantly improve the exercise tolerance.3.After the intervention trial, the blood glucose of the CETM group was significantlyhigher than the placebo group and before the intervention trial (P<0.05), the blood lactate ofthe CETM group was significantly lower than placebo group and before the interventiontrial (P <0.05). The above results show that CETM can significantly improve level ofenergy metabolism.4.The fatigue index of the CETM group was significantly lower than trial before (P<0.05). Therefore, the CETM can significantly reduce the fatigue index.5.During the intervention trial, the CETM group had no adverse effects. After theintervention trial, the examination results of blood routine, liver functions and renalfunctions were within normal range. The results show that CETM will not lead to humanadverse reactions. In summary, the CETM can significantly improve the exercise tolerance and energymetabolism, and decrease the fatigue index, without any adverse effects. Our data indicatethat the CETM is a safe and effective anti-fatigue agent.
