Objective To investigate the effect of surgical treatment of thesympathetic cervical spondylosis.Methods22cases of sympathetic cervical spondylosis,8males and14females, were studied respectively with age of42-76years, median ageof59.68±9.75years.Their courses of disease were from12to120monthswith the average of30.73±31.60months. All the cases have shown thatcervical instability in the X ray, and the sympathetic symptoms include:dizziness, headache, vertigo, nausea, vomiting, tinnitus, blurredvision,nervousness, memory loss, tachycardia or bradycardia or prematurebeats and other ECG abnormalities, gastrointestinal symptoms, facialflushing, sweating and so on. Sympathetic symptoms were evaluated by the20points score and by subjective patient satisfaction assessment(4grades:excellent,good, fair, poor).Results All patients were followed up for5-43months,the average are19.33±12.97months, preoperative sympathetic nerve symptoms of20score were3to8points,with the average of5.09±1.95points; comparing0-2minutes postoperatively, on average of0.64±0.65points; there wasstatistical significance (P <0.05) by t test,and the results of subjectivepatient satisfaction assessment were: excellent in13cases, good in6cases,fair in2cases and poor in1case, and excellent rate of86.4%.Postoperative X-ray of all the cases showed good fusion. Conclusion Cervical instability is an important factor in cervicalsympathetic spondylosis and the disc degeneration is a prominent causewhich lead to the instability.The surgical management have a good effectin the sympathetic spondylopathy.
