BackgroudForehead lifting serves to restore a more youthful appearance as well as a morefunctional and aesthetically pleasing brow position. With the social development and improvement of living standard, there are more and more patients asking for forehead rejuvenation. As a result, the application of this brow-lifting technology is most widely used in rejuvenation of the mildly to moderately ptotic brow. The technologies include direct brow lift, coronal incision, endoscopic, and trans-blepharoplasty and botulinum toxin injection. Since1992,Core el reported endoscopic approach of upper face rejuvention, There has been significant development and refinement of endoscopic approaches to foreheadplasty. But it has also been questioned for decades whether endoscopic is better indeed. Some plastic surgeons has considered that endoscopic approach cannot provides excellent visualization of the muscular anatomy for resection of musculature such as the corrugator and procerus muscles. We have a retrospective comparison of coronal and endoscopic eyebrow lift, according to the quality, patients’satisfactory, operation time, and complications of endoscopic versus open approaches. MethodsFrom september1995to January2007, a total of93patients, ages45to60years, underwent surgical brow-lifting procedure. The conoral group enrolled23patients,average49.6year-old,with2-18months follow-up. The endoscopic mini-incision group enrolled70patients,average52.4year-old, with2-12months follow-up. Comared of results of the quality, patients’satisfactory, operation time, and complications of endoscopic versus open approaches.Results1.Compared the eyebrow elevating distance, two groups have no statistical differences (p>0.05).2.The complications between two groups have significant statistical differences (p<0.001).3.The coronal approach need more operation time and longer time in hospital than endoscopic approach, and it has significant statistical differences(p<0.01, p<0.001).ConclusionsBoth coronal and endoscopic approach elavate eyebrows successfully, as well as smooth upper face wrinkles. And the endoscopic approach is more suitable for the mildly to moderately ptotic brow, with the advantages of less operation time, minimal invasive procedure and less complications.
