Objectives: Detection of Runx2expression in human oral squamous cell carcinomatissues. Analysis of the relationship between the expression level and the occurrence of oralcancer and clinical pathology. Exploration of the possible role of Runx2in the diagnosis andtreatment of oral cancer. Methods: Runx2expression was detected in30cases of oral cancer tissues byimmunohistochemical method (S-abc method), and the expression level of Runx2wasanalyzed at different pathological staging in OSCC, and the expression differential betweenlymph node metastases and none metastases was determined. Results: All the oral cancer tissues are positively staining, containing15weaklypositive staining cases,7moderately positive cases and8strongly positive cases. Howeverthe expression of Runx2was negative in the simple hyperplasia epithelium and nomalepithelium around the cancer nests, and the expression level of Runx2in oral cancer tissueswas significantly raised compared to the control group. There was no significant expressiondifferential (p>0.05) between the different age, gender and location. The expression ofRunx2was significantly increased in poorly differentiated oral squamous cell carcinomacompared to the well-differentiated and moderately-differentiated cases (p <0.05); TheRunx2the expression of the T3-T4stage of OSCC was significantly higher than the T1-T2stage of OSCC (p <0.05);we failed to determine the expression differential between regionallymph node metastasis and none metastasis cases (p>0.05).Conclusions: The expression level of Runx2in OSCC may determine the benign ormalignant lesions of epithelial tissue. High level expression of Runx2may be related to theprogress of oral squamous cell carcinoma, which indicated that Runx2may be a potentialearly diagnostic factor. Runx2expression was significantly increased in poorly differentiatedcarcinoma, which may intimate that high expression of Runx2of OSCC may be relatedto the degree of malignancy of oral cancer.
