Objective:Through investigating the consumers’cognitive ability of nutrition label in six districts of Taiyuan city and the understanding and performance of some food production enterprises on nutrition labeling in Shanxi province, discussing the standardization management of food nutrition labeling, the article will provide scientific basis for improving food nutrition labeling regulations and management strategy in China.Methods:This study conducts a him-administered questionnaire survey by researching528consumers in Taiyuan, Shanxi province,105food production enterprises and the nutrition labeling of prepackaged food in market to evaluate the consumers and food production enterprises according to the rules for management standard for the food.Results:According to the survey,81.6%of consumers consider that it is necessary to mark the nutrient contents and description on prepackaged foods, but only15.2%of consumers know what food nutrition labels are. Only2.1%of consumers marked Very Satisfied on nutrition labeling, while67.2%of consumers hold General Satisfaction. Among all the consumers,38.3%of them make the nutritional value the primary consideration when choosing foods. There are105food production enterprises responding to the survey, accounting for58.3%.36.2%of food production enterprises participated in the survey have passed China National Metrology Accreditation or China National Accreditation Laboratory (CNAL) and25.7%of enterprises carries out the test of nutrients items. Among the173kinds of prepackaged food surveyed, the average rate of food nutrition labeling is19.7%, but the nutrient name, unit and numerical value are not inconsistent.Conclusions:The cognitive ability of consumers on food nutrition labels is relatively low in Taiyuan. At present, the level of understanding and labeling food nutrition varies with different food production enterprises in Shanxi province. It is necessary to enhance the publicity of label knowledge, popularize the knowledge of nutrition, increase the awareness of consumers on food nutrition label, and label nutrition scientifically and correctly.
